Sing and Play at Smith Memorial Playground

Mendelssohn Club of Philadelphia presented two Sing and Play programs at the historic Smith Memorial Playground in Philadelphia. Both provided a unique opportunity for any singer to sing chorals that demonstrated the differences between J.S. Bach and Felix Mendelssohn. The chorals also helped to introduce a small portion of Mendelssohn’s version of Bach’s St. Matthew Passion that will receive its North American premiere in February, 2015 by the Mendelssohn Club Choir and the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia. Singers were encouraged to bring their children or grandchildren to the event so they could have fun in the large playground surrounding the playhouse mansion. Adults, however, could not resist the chance to fly down the big wooden slide on burlap bags, themselves. See the photo gallery and video for a glimpse of these enjoyable evenings of music, snacks, play, and friendship.
